Saint Paul Chamber Music Competition: Final Round

February 25 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm CST

  • « Bluegrass and Brews at the Ratskeller
  • Spring Lectures by Daniel Freeman: Maurice Ravel »

Join us Saturday, February 25, for an afternoon of music-making with exceptional young stars, at the Finals of the 2023 Saint Paul Chamber Music Competition, a collaboration of the Friends of the SPCO and The Saint Paul Conservatory of Music.

The string and wind ensembles that have reached this stage of the Competition are made up of pre-college students from any of seven states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Missouri and Nebraska. Each group will vie for cash prizes and other awards; just one will take home the coveted First Prize – $1,500 plus the opportunity to perform prior to a SPCO concert at the Ordway this spring.

Finals judges include Richard Belcher, cellist with the SPCO; Julia Bogorad-Kogan, principal flutist with the SPCO; and Sarah Grimes, violinist with the Minnesota Orchestra. Shortly after winners are announced, each ensemble will receive a brief workshop with one of the judges – a perfect chance for those attending to watch the process of crafting beautiful ensemble performances.

This event is free and open to the public; attend live or via streaming.

Location: Reform Lutheran Church, 100 Oxford Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota.
